Why surgery is necessary
Cataracts occur when proteins in the eye's lens break down, causing cloudiness, blurred vision, and, if left untreated, blindness. The most common procedure, phacoemulsification , uses ultrasound (or laser) to break down the lens and then removes fragments by suction before a new lens is implanted.
Critical pump functions
Diaphragm pumps fulfill two important functions:
- Eye stabilization – Creates a controlled vacuum to align and hold the eye during surgery.
- Debris Removal – Provides a deep, precise vacuum to clear cataract particles prior to lens implantation.
These pumps must deliver consistent performance, low vibration and minimal noise levels for patient comfort and surgical accuracy.
